Here's Where You Can Find It! Go here to get step-by-step instructions for checking your computer to make sure that you have Microsoft Word 2000 or above for Windows correctly installed on your computer before making a purchase.
Microsoft Word Viewer
Microsoft has a free program
available on their website that will allow you to open and look at files
created with Microsoft Word. You can modify that file. However, the
changes that you make will not be saved. When you open the document again,
you will see the original file. Not the one that you changed. Go here to
read about and download the Microsoft Word Viewer. Microsoft makes
frequent changes to their website and this link may be broken. If so, please
notify me. Thanks.
FULL vs UPGRADE VERSIONS OF MICROSOFT WORD Microsoft has a full version and the upgrade versions of this software available on their website. In addition, If you do not own any version of Microsoft Word, you need to purchase the full version which will give you a complete install. If you already own an older version of Word, you can purchase the less expensive upgrade only version from your local office supply store or use the rebate coupon included with the software. Increasingly, the upgrade only versions are more difficult to find. Microsoft seems to prefer forcing you to buy the more expensive full program, then use the coupon to get part of your money back. If you own one of the Microsoft Office Suites or Microsoft Works you may also be eligible to purchase the upgrade version of Word instead of the full version. Read the back and sides of the software box to be sure. Or click here for general info about Microsoft upgrades Click here for general Microsoft software upgrade information and here for specific Word upgrade information. Microsoft changes their website so frequently this link may be broken. If so, go to their website and search under "upgrade version of Word". You need proof of ownership when installing the new software! So make sure you have the CD or diskette of the older version on hand during installation.

WORD IS AVAILABLE AT KINKO'S
Several customers who purchased a Word template and discovered they did not have that software on their computer reported to us that they went to a local Kinko's, rented time on their computers and completed their keepsake.
Check the Kinko's
website to see if there is one in your area. The 24-hour locations usually offer this feature. But, your local FedEx Kinko's may do so as well.
They have most of the popular software including Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Word. But, in
some stores, the version available may not be the most recent or compatible with our template. Call
them to make sure they have the software you need and to get their hourly pricing. The place is usually packed around college finals time, the holidays, Saturday morning/early afternoons and in the evenings. Space used to be first come, first served. But, ask if you can reserve a specific time. If you
decide to do this, copy your template to a cd (1.45 MB or larger templates)
or diskette (1.36 MB templates and smaller) and take that with you. Save
frequently as you work and save your completed document to the cd or
diskette as well. An experienced user of Word, could complete most of our smaller templates in a couple of hours (1-4). Just be sure you take all of the necessary info with you when you go to Kinko's. This may not be the most economical solution for using our larger templates or templates which need frequent changes before final printing such as the family reunion booklet or the reunion cookbook. NOTE: We do not endorse or recommend
any of the above locations or websites. The information provided is just
that, information. |
