Checking For Microsoft Publisher... If you purchased your computer from a retail store or internet outlet with software pre-installed, you probably do not have Microsoft Publisher unless you bought it yourself and installed it separately. Microsoft Home Publishing is for images. It is NOT the same as Microsoft Publisher and does not open files intended for use with Microsoft Publisher. You can not open Publisher files with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publishing, Microsoft Works, PowerPoint or any other program Microsoft or otherwise. You can not directly import Word files into Publisher or Works. You can however, copy and paste text from Word files into Publisher or Microsoft Works. Neither Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works will open Publisher files. Be sure to order the template which matches the software on your computer. If you have Word on your computer, get Word templates. If you have Publisher on your computer, get Publisher templates. If you own Microsoft Office Professional 2000 or Microsoft Office Professional 2003, Publisher is one of the programs included on your CD. If you did not install it when you originally added Office to your computer, you will need to install it form the CD. Make sure you also install the clip art gallery from your CD - it does not install automatically. You will need it if you wish to change the graphics supplied with our templates. Publisher is not included on the 2002 Version of Microsoft Office or Office 2003 or Microsoft Office XP. You will need to purchase it separately. IN ORDER TO VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT PUBLISHER IS ON YOUR COMPUTER TRY THE FOLLOWING: 1) Go to "Start" select "Programs" then check the list on your right to see if Microsoft Publisher is listed. 2) Go to "start", select "find" (or search for ) then select "files or folders" or and type in "mspub.* You will be telling your computer to do what Microsoft calls a wild card search to locate all files containing mspub. Make sure the "look in" or "search" box is set to check all of the hard drives (not the floppy drive or the cd drive) and all subfolders on your computer. At the end of the search, it will show all files with mspub in their name. Mspub.exe is the file that opens Microsoft Publisher. 3) OR, go to: "My Computer" and look for the "Programs" Folder. Open the folder and look for the Microsoft Office sub-folder. If you see it, double click on it to open. Check in the 1033 folder for Mspub.exe. If none of the three above searches turns up Microsoft Publisher, you probably do not have it on your computer and must purchase it in order to use our templates. Most likely, Microsoft Works, a scaled down version of Microsoft Word, was installed by your computer manufacturer along with Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc. If you built your own computer and installed the Microsoft operating system, you need install additional software for word processing or desk top publishing. Microsoft Home Publishing is for images. It does not work with Word templates. You can not open Word files with Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Home Publishing, Microsoft Works, PowerPoint or any other program, Microsoft or otherwise. If none of the three above searches turns up Microsoft Word, you probably do not have it on your computer and must purchase it in order to use our templates. You can try to use Microsoft Works 2000 with our Word templates or purchase Word. However, we do not guarantee the results. Nor can we provide customer support for using Microsoft Works. Be sure to order the template which matches the software on your computer. If you have Word on your computer, get Word templates. If you have Publisher on your computer, get Publisher templates. If you think you have downloaded the template but, are having trouble finding it on your computer, if you did not install it in the Heritage folder or if you are not sure it was actually downloaded onto your computer, try the following quick method to search your computer for the template: 1) Most users of Microsoft Office / Word or Publisher have the program set to open files created with an Office program immediately. If you do not, open your copy of Word or Publisher, locate the unzipped file in the "Heritage" folder and double click on it to open. When you save the file under a new name after opening it, be sure to save it back to the Heritage folder or into the folder that you use to store all of the Word or Publisher documents that you create. 2) Occasionally, the templates install themselves several layers deep on your computer. If you followed our instructions to create a new "Heritage" folder, downloaded the templates into it and then unzipped the individual templates into the same Heritage folder, then, they are here. Open the Heritage folder you created. Look for another folder called 'My Documents" inside. Click on that folder and another folder named "Word Work Files" or "Heritage Documents" will appear. Click on that folder and another folder named either "Heritage Products" or "Template Files" will appear. Click on that and you should find your zipped template files. 3) If you did not follow our instructions to create a new "Heritage" folder and download your templates into it, your computer will make its' own decision about where to install the templates. 4) Other places to check for the templates on your computer: - c:\windows\temp ( template installed itself in the temporary folder within your Windows directory )
- c:\temp ( template installed itself in the temporary folder on your main hard drive )
- c:\name of template.zip ( template installed itself on your main hard drive )
- c:\My Documents ( template installed itself in the default working documents folder on your computer that was installed on your hard drive with Microsoft 98, 2000, etc. )
5) QUICK SEARCH: Go to "Start" select "Find" then select "Files or Folders". In the space with the word "Named" type in *.zip ( type first the asterisk symbol, then a period, then "zip"). This text is instructing your computer to do what is called a wildcard search and look for all files on your computer that have a zip on the end. Make sure the "Look In" box is set to check drive C. To do so, click on the down arrow in that box and select the "C" drive. Also, click on the box marked "Include Subfolders". At the end of the search, it will show all files with a zip extension that are on your computer. Click on the template file when you find it and it will open the copy of Publisher or Word installed on your computer. If none of the above searches turns up the template, your download was not complete and you do not have it on your computer. Be sure to read the FAQ, add our e-mail address to your white list or buddy list to make sure you can receive the download link. Then, NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY!!
